Raid setup error (not just bp6) please help

I am getting this on my bp6 and on my athlon PC. I have a SD-ATA8212-133RAID card (a cheapy i got for like 15 bucks from pricewatch). I updated the bios to the latest version but am still getting this error message.. on boot up it loads the card and i get

Please wait IDE SCAN ....................................................................
ERROR!! Firmware not ready Please power down the system and try again

I have to WE400 40GB hard drives. Now one of them was giving me fits. I thought it had crashed and died but i reformated it in windows and it was fine. Just in case that was the problem i unplugged just that drive from the raid card. But i still get the same thing. The card even says (in the manual) that you can run just one normal drive.

Im kind of out of ideas here, i tried searching the web but i just cant find anything.

cheapy raid cards are cheap.
pay a small fee and get an Adaptec
