is there some invisible surface for them? usually i get my comps up & running over the night, 'cause they run calcs for WCG & in the morning only a mouse move will get you working & online...
so my monitors are also ON, but they turn OFF automaticlly after 10min...but one of the stupid mouses (Creative sthg) somehow misiterpret the surface and start running (even though it's not in motion) and get the monitor ON...
now, is there some surface for the mouse not to work? some surface that the mouse cannot see? some surface that it will not activate the monitors?
Q: about the optical mouse?!

Yeah, I remember why the idea occured to me now. A colleague has a glass-topped table and it took me a good ten seconds to figure out why the optical mouse wasn't working (d'oh!).
You'll have to experiment.
