Trying to get rid of my Windows 2000 Professional network problem on my BP6 computer, I wanted to upgrade to XP Pro yesterday (cloned the harddisk before that to go back if necessary). Windows 2000 pro SP4 German is installed.
When I try to upgrade it with a German Windows XP Pro, I get an English(!) "Welcome" screen, and a message saying "upgrade not possible, language versions differ". On a second PC with Windows 2000 Pro SP3, the same copy of XP Pro offers me that upgrade option.
I also have an English language copy of XP Pro. That does offer me the upgrade option when I try to install it on the BP / German 2000 pro.
So somehow the language of my Windows 2000 installation on the BP6 seems to be recognized as English. I checked the country and language settings- all German. Deinstalled SP4- still the same problem.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Best regards,
Wolfram

Thanks. Maybe I installed a wrong language version in SP1-3. SP4 is definetly the german version.HAL6000 wrote:Ar you sure the service pack you installed was the german version? I have seen this creap up when the wrong language service pack gets isntalled.
Usually I pay attention to language versions, but I´m not sure. Unfortunately uninstallation of the older service packs is not available anymore. Damn.
