Deus Ex 2 first game to require a DirectX 8 card?
Here is a picture of a Deus Ex 2 package from an online shop. It says: Geforce3 or higher required, GF4MX excluded. Which should mean DeusEx2 requires a DX8 card. Given that picture is not a fake (is ebgames a big dealer?), it looks like that DeusEx2 might be the first game without DX7 fallback support. Or is there any other game out yet that actually requires DX8 hardware?
Btw, WHERE ARE THE GAMES? I just bought a 9800 non-pro to do myself a favor because I was so disappointed by seeing everything delayed to spring 2004 or later... HL2, Doom3, Far Cry and DeusEx 2. Where are the games I could buy for christmas? Am I expected to buy more pre-interactive media like books and go back to reading?;)

Yes, Halo, Call of Duty and Max Payne2 will be next. It´s just that all games I was really waiting for are delayed. I definitely prefer a polished release to an unfinished still-beta. But I thought publishers were all after the christmas business. Maybe we should stick to kuun´s theory. I´ve seen the first christmas decoration in german shops this year in late summer/early autumn, so what´s the difference anyway

Here are some benchmarks of that game...

... and here are some numbers indicating the performance loss when using pixel shaders 2.0:

Looks like this game is an good example of bad programming. Even the absolute scores seem to be way too low for the given graphics quality (may of course still be a good game in terms of gameplay).
Just tried Halo, not as disappointing as I had expected. In fact, the graphics engine produces really nice outdoor scenery IMO. But the performance, especially indoors, is ridiculous. Maybe a bad console port, but I was told that performance is also hampered by an unnecessary over-use of shaders for effects that could be accomplished easier.

Yes. I´d like to add that Halo multiplayer is _really_ fun. The vehicles add a lot to conventional gameplay modes. Easy to get in and the player community seems to be friendly... almost no teamkillers or borers. Not too many internet servers available, but still enough. Unfortunately they didn´t include the COOP mode of the Xbox-version.johnli wrote:The trouble Halo has is that it was a port of a port - the developers were originally developing it for PC, then MS bought them and forced them to port it to Xbox first; now they've re-ported it back to PC.
