yesterdays spring cleaning...

Post by KliK »

yesterday it was time to clean-up the MBO...the dust was awfull! and the WinXP got me some "blue screens"...

at first i tought to be the CPUs, 'cause they ran up to 50°C...but it wasn't...the GPU cooler was stuck and overheating the GPU...but the video card still worked!
so my Kyro2 (both of them, without TVout & with TVout) were without cooling...so i switched to inno 3D GeForce2 MX400...got out the 2x Voodoo2 on SLi, 'cause they won't work (initiate) with GeForce...and now it works fine!

in meantime i picked up the dust...almost an inch thick in my big tower, 'cause it's on the floor!

but that is not the end of my problems...now the MBO works fine...the CPUs work in lower 40°C, even with BOINC crunching...
but the problem is that one CPU works with 5°C higher temp than the other?! they both have the INTEL OEM coolers for the Coopermines with small fans on 5000rpms....they are both the same speed!
but the one closer to the SDRAM works on higher temp.!

does anyone else have that problem?

Sometimes the diodes beneath each processor are misaligned.

It’s possible that one is pushed further down than the other, causing the temperature reading discrepancy. Try pulling both of them up a little bit, so that they are forced down slightly by the processors when you install them.
