Post your overclocking results!

Post by hugoc »

I thought we should have a thread on the overclocks we've achieved on our BP6s. I'll start.

My highest overclock has been 594MHz (two C366s, 108MHz FSB). This is pretty stable at 2.1v. Increasing to 110FSB will boot and load an OS but crash as soon as any load is put on the CPU, even at 2.3v.

2*GlobalWin FEP32, 512MB PC100 CAS2
GeForce DDR, CMI8738 audio, Accton SMC2-1211TX NIC
Ubuntu Linux, Kernel 2.6.8.1-4-686-smp

Two 533MHz CPU's@600MHz (75MHz FSB) at 2.1 volts. System ran stable, even through CPU tests but I got kernel errors (APIC errors) that I don't get when running the CPU at 576MHz/72MHz FSB.

I'm sure I've had mine up to 78Mhz, maybe 80/82
but I can't leave them there as Summer is too hot and I don't air-con

hugoc, good idea for a thread. Hopefully everyone will stick with only BP6s
:D :D :D :D :D

2x366 @ 594 - 108 FSB - 2.3v. post but freeze in OS no load
2x366 @ 572 - 104 FSB - 2.2v. Unstable
2x366 @ 550 - 100 FSB - 1.85v stable
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

Now they are running at their "default" ;-) frequency: 550 with 2 V, stable, cool n' quiet.
so you say that the cel366 are better than cel533, right?!

Yes, cause you run them at 100MHz FSB at 550Mhz, where memmory runs at 100MHz also.
where 533MHz celerons are running on 66MHz FSB (mem - also)....

my 533's run fairly happily at 600 / 75fsb
I've had them up to 624 / 78fsb but i haven't cooled the BX as yet. must get around to that.

Pretty good. I could also run mine at 600MHz but as you can see from the performance tests I made, 600 provided almost nothing over 576 (75MHz vs 72MHz FSB). My machine would also on occasion freeze at 600MHz but it was always rock-stable at 576.

is it better 7 faster:
366@550/100 or
533@600/75 (large heatsinks and BX cooled!)

366@550 is faster in overall and it will show on the benches and real life

I agree with BCN here. Check out this link that contains a discussion and my performance testing on the BP6 with various CPU's. If you are running a task that is CPU-only task then any Celeron going faster than 550 MHz will be faster.

But who runs CPU-only tasks these days? Desktops are demanding on the whole system and there is no doubt in my mind that a system with 366@550MHz/100MHz FSB will be faster. In fact, after my testing I have swapped my 533's@576 for a pair of 366@550.

purrkur,
You are a big man. You were so strongly in favor of the 533s and then you took the time to actually test for resluts instead of just relying on opinion and guesswork(and experience). I say again, "Great work on the tests."

my results

Both my Celeron 400's are at 600 MHz with 100MHz FSB.
Both are running on 2.2 volts and idle between 22-25 celsius.
Runs 99.9 % stable!
HOORAY!
I even did the 1/1 AGP thing which makes a tiny difference in video speed.
When the CPU's are in use, they go up to about 33 celsius but still runs fine.

* these CPU's needed to be burned-in! for the first week or two they crashed alot, but now are just as stable as stock!

oops multi-post

Post by Jordan »

sorry for multi-posting.
One side effect of overclocking seems to be my network adapter (Intel PRO/100+ management adapter) slows down and sort of half-freezes for a minute or two after a long uptime. weird...

Jordan,
I've wondered about trying 400@600 myself. I think the 366s are much more popluar because they run on 100FSB with no fuss and usually at LOWER then stock voltage...mine are at 1.9V. Anyway the Mendocino core hits a wall and not many people "have what it takes" to push past 575.

Great post on that board handeling 1.2GigaHrtz of processing power.

Oh, on that double posting thing...many of us hit the BACK button ofter we hit submit and that usually prevents an accidental multiple posting. Trust that the data gets sent the first time you hit submit even if it seems slow.
