Pentium Pro
hey guys has anyone ever attempted to use a ppro machine?
im wondering how good they are on performance, i have a 180MHZ ppro CPU that i'd like to get in operation

Hail the Pentium Pro!!
I currently have a Pentium Pro 200 Overclocked to 233 w 128 MB Ram for my work machine and it runs like a champ! Heres a question for all of you CPU Gurus. Arent the P4's still running on the same architecture as the PPro just a smaller die and higher clock speeds with some extra instructions , ala MMX , KNI ,SSE , SSE2 ect?
Anyways the Pentium Pro is one badass proc , Espically with 1MB Cache.

Here's a snip from The Tech Report:
"The Coppermine core on which the PIII 800EB is based represents yet another revision and die shrink for Intel's P6 architecture. The Coppermine is made on Intel's latest fabrication process, giving it a .18-micron feature size. As always with processors, smaller is better, and the Coppermine is state of the art. The .18u Coppermine runs cooler, requires less power, and tolerates higher clock frequencies than older Pentium IIIs."
And there are many sites with information relating to the new features of the Pentium IV that are built onto the P6 core (Pentium Pro). Amazing Intel!
awesome
i wanna find a ppro board
i'd have to find my ppro first

Kuun will be receiving a pair of the 200ppro with 1/2 meg cache. anyone got a dual ppro board they want to send him?
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

I don't know why but i sort of remember that the 333 overdrives will only work single or maximum of two. I looked pretty hard for a better solution to my ppro dual board before it died.
LOOOOOVVVVVVEE that case though.

davd_bob, that link is not the one I am talking about. The guy on Ars Technica used his own case and everything. I found an old thread, but it was as he was building it, and really didn't show too much.
I think he did have 67 of the overdrives in there, I will keep searching for it, and if I can't find it, I will email the owner, and if no response, post a message on there.
It was really a sweet setup he built, I can only imagine 6 333's , and I think he was able to everclock them slightly also. I remember seeing the task manager from win2k, showing 6 processors. Sweet.

lots of BP6s and two VP6s all apart currently

that would have been a powerful machine. the 333 overdrives, if i remember correctly are P-II with 512k of fullspeed cache which means they would likely out process any slot1 or AMD K6-2 cpu and even most K6-3.
i see you updated your sig. neat-o
