Abit Plans Passive Heatpipe Northbridge Cooling

Post by InactiveX »

The Inquirer posted an article earlier today reporting Abit's plans to bring its OTES cooling technology to the Northbridge, replacing active cooling.

See the article, with pictures, here.

It looks impressive. I don't really trust the way it looks like it mechanically sinks the heat from the HS to the passive cooler though. I doubt the heat will dissipate down the tube effectivly enough. It may not be designed with OC'ing in mind. I will let a few hundred people use that technology for a while before I jump in.
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

oh YES IT WILL transfer the heat away, as we all know, heatpipes are much more effective than puse copper, just look at the new haetsink designs. then you always may add a fan to that and you will get even more :)

I've been thinking about using heatpipe cooling for a while. Anything that will make my PC quieter, I'm interested in, particularly as my computer forms the centre of my home recording studio. I have looked into it, but the price has always been prohibitive.

Has anyone used a heatpipe?

me, but on the P4 with silent completely noisless fan, it works great, besides, have you ever seen Zalman case, which costs like 1000USD, where you have CPU, northbridge and GPU cooled by heatpipes, as well as PSU and HDDs, it has no fans. it IS silent, but YES, price is prohibitive... :(
