bp6oldie: If you discharge the BIOS, it will be reset to the default BIOS settings. It will not downgrade the BIOS to the previous revision. You have to flash the BIOS to change its revision level.

No. I just want to try this fix on my BP6 that is O/C'd to 110Mhz. It locks up randomly. EC10 is 100uF. If it works, it may be a good thing to do for any BP6 that will O/C'd.

Don't know if the HPT366 will "see" the Zip. You may have to use the ZIP on the regular IDE controller. And as InactiveX says, in order to access the HPT366 BIOS, a hard drive has to be connected to the HPT366 controller.

grsshppr_km: Xcellent information! Especially, this link in the article:

http://home.att.net/~garyheadlee/services.htm

Sent an email to find if he still repairs BP6's. His page says all capacitors over 1000uF will be replaced. $55 for a BP6. Very interesting.

Thanx...

When the HPT366 BIOS comes up, do you see hard drive(s) list on this BIOS page?

So, are you setting a static IP address on the Linux box or are you getting the IP address automatically from the DHCP server on your router? If you are doing DHCP from the router, try setting a static IP address on the Linux box.

It is amazing to see this board continue long after its birth.

And, people from all over the world continue to support it.

Just think of all the extra money that has been spent to maintain and modify this mainboard :o.

HPT 366 Controller

The BP6 manuals states that the HPT366 controller is only designed for mass-storage devices, not CDROM's. I have been running a hard drive on my BP6 since August 1999, but I boot from a SCSI drive. :)

If the controller card has an external SCSI connector, you should be able to use an external Sun SCSI drive. Providing the SCSI drive and controller card are compatible (Ultra2 -to- Ultra2, for example). Make sure the external SCSI drive is terminated properly. Some controllers are auto-sensing. Oth...

The system temperature sensor isn't really case temperature. Here's a picture of RT3 on the mainboard: http://216.170.15.226/index_files/rt3.jpg You can use thermal compound for the greenie . There wasn't any compound under mine when I looked. Hopefully, someone else will have some cooler information.
