Once again, I find myself shilling for Ars Technica on a web forum somewhere, but they've got some excellent analysis of the Apple + Intel bit. It seems to be a combination of scale and product breadth. Intel can supply nearly ever piece of silicon that Apple needs (from the iPods up through the Xse...

Good work there Jeff! I am also a sucker for eye-candy but with work and family taking up my time, things like tinkering with X.org take a back seat. I am always a sucker for seeing what others are doing and exchanging information and howto's as well. So thanks! I'll check out the settings mentione...

X.org 6.8.1, transparency and hardware acceleration. Rawk!

Hey all, I upgraded to Slack 10.1 last weekend and I've been playing around. I posted some pics of my current desktop. They're in my gallery: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Anyway, I run WindowMaker , and I use mrxvt as my xterm (it's rxvt with tabs, and a few other goodies, like transparency). After upgrading (...

Woohoo! The release of the hardware OpenGL is coming soon! Article I just can't wait for this. Although it will only work on older 3D cards, maybe the likes of Nvidia and ATI will sit up and take notice. Maybe even give Rudolf a job. One can only hope... :) That's totally sweet. I'd been wondering ...

Re: Bp6 Will Not Post! Help!!!

THEN when i try to reset the cmos jumper, as soon as i pull it out the fans starts running but no beeps (this is really, really weird). Make sure your PSU is off before you mess with those jumpers. You could damage the board. If you were using metal tweezers, you might have hit one of the pairs of ...

I just cannot $/&%$/ believe what people are able to imagine.... and just for getting money.... It looks like a pretty clean case of extortion, or some other illegal con/scam. Congrats on the PIII mod! If you want it permanent, I suggest epoxying the wires on the back of the sockets. Solder just isn't a strong mechanical connection. If the board is used, it might do 110, but will need significant cooling. I tried pretty hard to boost mine past 100, and did not succeed. Bo...

Well, let's see, I've spent the last week trying to find a Solid State Relay that doesn't crap out at 4.2 Kelvin (no luck so far, but most of the International Rectifier models get much better at 77 Kelvin). We're trying to find some switches that might actually work when we throw them inside a 6 Te...

About the Celeron The Mendocino core built on 25micron technology hits a wall between 550 and 625MHz. Pretty much any of them will run 550 nomater what speed they are "rated" for but almost none will go 625 mhz. If your system is running stable at 2.0volts try drop it to 1.85 and you may get a plea...

last time i used that exact hardware on BE6 board, overclocked to 75/2 or 112/3 FSB...so it's not that... Ok, good. Ruled that out. now my VTT (with capacitor in place) goes from 1,44 to 1,57 in cold or hot run...i don't know much but it seems that a capacitor didn't do the trick! Actually, that's ...

Re: Any success with CuMine + Lin-Lin adapter + BP6?

Just wondering if anyone has gotten Coppermine CPUs (single or dual) to boot with those cheap Lin-Lin adapters on the BP6. When I tried, I got a blank screen and no beeps. I am thinking of doing the Yoichiro mods, but I'm just curious if anyone else had gotten it to work with the Lin-Lin adapters b...

the boxes at home usually need no bios password and locked cases. I guess you're right at this point. Technical solutions cannot be a substitute for talking to the kids about "go" and "no-go" while "playing" with the box and the net. (Guess it's the same for television.... :-? ) I don't have kids y...

Although it still uses an IRQ, I believe you would not be able to use the controller with the HPT-less BIOS. Sadly it is not possible to completely remove the HPT as you describe. I wish it was! I had my zip drive hanging off the HPT. Linux would happily still use the HPT, even with the RV BIOS. So...

Re: Cheaper way ...

hi there, it's well known that NT (2000/XP) passwords can be reset if one has "hardware" access to your box. All one needs is a boot floppy (or CD) from [link]http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/[/link] and a bios allowing to boot from either one. It is possible to do this to a Linux box too. A...

Not bad! It is also funny to note that you wouldn't have ANY of these issues with Linux, which would right off the bat just report a 200Gig drive :) Sounds like what I've done with my work machine. what do u think is faster & better? 366@550/100 or 533@600/75 faster bus => faster overall system (IMHO) That's what purrkur found when he actually benchmarked them.
