Re: Is XP SP2 ok to use now...why would I want to?
Ok Dave I'll give you my take on this. I've got something like 15 systems running here. All of them with some version of Windows on them. Most are XP with the latest service pack. So I think this gives me a little better idea about what I'm talking about then most people running just one or two sys...

Re: Is XP SP2 ok to use now...why would I want to?
Im asking for help from my trusted advisors here instead of doing a search and reading stuff unknown folks have to say. My wife has XP Home SP1 on her pc and wants to know if SP2 is better now then it was. The last time some created a new post in this section was well over a year ago and everything...

Re: Splicing HDD LED
OK, now that I've 'replaced' the HPT366 with a Promise controller ( Ref. ), I've run into a bit of a dilemma. I want to be able to connect the HDD LED to more than one controller (i.e. the Promise and the BX or the Promise and the HPT366, or the Promise and whatever). Or simply add one or more LEDs...

I guess it all just depends on the use. For me HT has been a blessing. Crunching SETI it sure makes a big difference.purrkur wrote:Oh, and I found mention of this on Slashdot (over here). I loved reading the comments. Now everybody is saying that hyperthreading is crap all of a sudden

there is a network wizard in XP Home will work, it's just slightly stupider than Pro Actually I've never noticed a difference between the two? there's some setting, apart from getting on the same workgroup, that the wizard will fix. Yea about all it does is setup the network type and computer name....

Billl, I will try without the passwords on the WIN98 systems. Both currently use one. Actually I was refering to the passwords on the Win2K boxes as being the problem. I have no problem connecting to the Win98 machines. It's connecting from the Win98 to Win2K box where the problems occur. It just n...

Re: XP HOME doesn't see WIN98 systems on Peer to peer
HELP. I connected my wife's system(XP HOME) on the LAN at her store, but it might as well be a stand alone system...it doesn't see the 2 WIN98 systems and won't let them see it. I had a W2K PRO connected to the XP system and at least the W2K system could see the shares, but this uppity XP turkey re...

My SETI Farm
It appears tomorrow I should be taking over 2nd place for output on our SETI @ Home team. Though I won't ever catch the top 2 guys now producing. It appears everyone else is in my sights. Just depends on how long the program continues. I've built quite a crunching setup. All these machines a...

Re: my question, dual PIII's on BP6, enough to handle MythTV
Ok, I'm looking for some practical use for my new toy(gotta justify it to my wife before she lets me complete it  )). All I presently need to complete this box is a large HDD (OBTW, what is the biggest HDD the BP6 can "see"?), a video card and a case. I know nothing about MythTV other than it...

ECS has always been a player in the budget/value segment so their products have always been stripped of features and functionality and they have been known to use cheap components for their motherboards (meaning both cheap in price and cheap as in crap quality). I have one of their boards, the infa...

Pages refreshing properly.
Anyone else having problems with the pages refreshing? Seems like every thread I open I have to refresh to get all the responses. Isn't a big deal when I'm at home on cable. But it's really annoying when I'm at work on my Verizon nation access card. I'm not complaining here, Derek does a heck of a j...
