20th Anniversary

Hello, anyone in here?

According to my mental arithmetic, the BP6 will be 20 years old next month.

I think we worked out years ago that it was launched in April 1999.

Happy birthday BP6.

Re: Happy New Year 2015

I'm still around! My BP6 is still going strong. I don't use it much, but I keep it as a Windows 32-bit machine. It may eventually house my TC PowerCore cards, as they are no longer supported but still sound fabulous (you can prise the VSS3 reverb from my cold dead hands). Other things I have been bu...

Hexus asks: What's the best CPU you've ever bought?

Just seen this thread over at Hexus:

http://hexus.net/tech/features/cpu/4964 ... er-bought/

I mentioned the Celeron/BP6 combination here:

PS Hello to all the old-timers!

Put the CD-ROM on one of the ATA66 ports.

Try setting the first boot device to EXT, and fiddle with the "Boot Sequence EXT means" settings in the BIOS.

I'm using an Intel Q9650 quad-core unlocked-multiplier CPU in my main machine nowadays. It has a whopping 12MB of L2 cache. Motherboard is an Asus P5QD Turbo with 4GB RAM. Running Windows 7 64-bit. The BP6 is still going strong, but doesn't get much use these days. I rebuilt it last year and may pre...

124MHz is pretty good to get the OS to boot!

Hi there Cashran, I loved using BeOS on my BP6. So smooth and snappy, and a lovely simple GUI. I would still be using it as my main OS but for two things: lack of support for modern hardware, and no pro-level digital audio workstation (DAW) apps. I tried to load Haiku Alpha 1 on my BP6 but couldn't ...

I've heard that Windows is a bit more forgiving than other OSs when it comes to hardware stability. I don't know if this is true though.

Have you done the EC10 fix, and checked all the voltages are where they should be while the BP6 is running?

Still here. I keep coming back to check you're all alive! Good to see you.

I've just today gone 64-bit with Windows 7 on a Core2Duo/Intel DP35DP. The BP6 is still with me (of course!) but she hasn't been fired up for a few years now.

I really can't stand Silverlight. In the UK, one of our top TV broadcasters, ITV, uses Silverlight. It's rubbish - agonising pauses and programmes that suddenly stop playing. I go over the border to the Scottish sister-site, STV, where they have much the same content, but Flash is the technology beh...

Hi there coz! I agree with what davd_bob is saying - you should definitely try to overclock the C300s to 450MHz. It's highly likely you could leave the CPU voltage at 2.0V. At this setting. Everything is running in spec apart from the CPUs, and they can take 450MHz pretty easily. If you wanted more ...

I see what you mean, although I disagree slightly - the main thing which BeOS had, and I hope Haiku will have, which raised it above the big-hitter desktop OSes, was its low latency with multimedia. In my work as a sound engineer and music producer, it's a constant struggle to keep latency down. Wit...
