I recently reinstalled Win-XP over a Dell Optiplex build that ceased booting after Dell replaced the failed mainboard. It fixed the boot problem & came up with everything preserved. I never got a clear explanation from Dell senior support of exactly how or why a supposedly identical mainboard swap could trigger a no boot senario?? I assume Win2000 reinstalls should be the same. Good Luck!

IIRC you can´t simply upgrade the kernel from non-ACPI to ACPI. You have to reinstall Windows 2000 from scratch. It _is_ possible to change it from ACPI to non-ACPI without reinstalling, but not the other way round.
