WTB: 2x Powerleap NeoS370 units or something better

Post by Ender666666 »

I am looking for 2 converters that would let me run something like 2x P-III 550E's on my BP6 in SMP.

Pretty sure some1 will confirm that you won't be able to get FC's to work without surgery on your board and / or convertors.

better to just get a VP6 and use that

Dark Rave, what makes you say that? The whole point of the Neo s370 is to allow a PPGA S370 MoBo to run a Coppermine FC-PGA chip... And from the reviews I have read, they work just fine. I know that SMP isn't a guarantee, but I am willing to try, and since the CPU's I have a cB0 stepping CPU's they should be SMP enabled.

If you see an error in what I am saying, PLEASE let me know, but I think I'll be ok...

Maybe you're thinking of the Tualatin (SP?) FC-PGA CPU's?

It depends on which modification you use but you will have to modify adapters and/or mainboard. There several different ways to modify the BP6, so it will SMP Pentium III (Coppermine) FC-PGA processors. And your right, the cB0 stepping will SMP.

The NEO S370 adapter will work fine for most single processor configurations. I really don't think PowerLeap ever intended this adapter to work in SMP configurations. Many BP6ers past and present, have used NEO S370 adapters for their BP6 SMP projects. Proving it is possible!

Well I have 2 PIII 850 MHz cB0s arriving sometime next week. What modifications do I need to make to the BP6?

Check out this FAQ:

http://www.bp6.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=921

Several links in this FAQ about modifing the BP6 for Pentium III SMP.

WOW.... So basically, I'll have to HEAVILY modify my BP6 in order to achieve dual PIII nirvana? Maybe it's not worth it after all.....

I was going to send a link but realized hyperspace sent the same link.

There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining
