I use SCSI hard drives with HPT366 hard drives. I boot from the SCSI drives. What PCI slot do you have the SCSI controller in?

No, just the PCI slots. The two closest to the ISA slots.

OK, I finally got my new (ebay) BP-6 (2 366's at 550) to boot...apparently it REALLY dislikes my old SB16 PCI. I also had an Adaptec 2940OU2W in slot 2, that didn't work.
I put a plain 2940OUW in slot 4, and XP hangs on boot with it there.
The only thing on the HPT is a CDRW, the HD's and CD are on the regular IDE. The 2940OUW wasn't seeing any drives on startup.
Second problem - I don't think XP is seeing both processors, I transferred the HD's from a single CPU box to this one without re-installing...should I re-install to get XP to see both?

dytham wrote:Your answer is yes, you need to reinstall XP to get it to see 2 processors.
Thanks, Dytham, I'll do that as soon as I can.
Any suggestions on what to try with the SCSI? I have all the hardware to put the drives in an external case, but I still have to resolve whatever conflict is driving the controller nuts.

OK, re-installed XP, 2 processors seen, no problem.

As a last resort, I put the SCSI card in PCI Slot 1, as I read someone else had, and IT WORKED!!! :D

Sorry I missed one of your posts. You are using the PCI slot next to the AGP slot? If yes, be aware that AGP and PCI1 share the same IRQ.

I am aware of the sharing, that's why I hadn't tried that slot previously. Machine has been on 24/7 for over a week now, FSB is 92Mhz, voltage is stock, running United Devices Cancer Research in screensaver mode. CPU temps right now are 87 & 89 (F).
Putting UD into full-time mode drives CPU temps up to 93 & 104 or so...one must be getting all the work, UD will use 50% CPU power in full mode.

Thanks for the help!
