I'm not clear why the "clean install of NT4" to the new controller matters if the end result is to have Win2K running? Anyway, if the HPT366 can handle the hdisk correctly, just try installing the WinNT using the HPT366. Then insert the Promise card in a free slot with no drives. Then get WinNT to see the Promise card & integrate the drivers.
Then, after WinNT has the drivers installed, plug the drive over to the Promise card.
This all depends on the Promise & HPT366 controllers both handling the drive in the same way (cylinders, heads, LBA translation) or it might not boot after the switch over. Don't forget to change the boot priority.

Installing the latest Service Pack (SP6a) may allow the installation of the Ultra100tx2 drivers.
