Radeon 9500 Pro -> 9700 Pro mod dangerous

Post by Wolfram »

Just wanted to inform those who think about modding their Radeon 9500 Pro that 1. it is possible in Software(!) with the new edition of RivaTuner and 2. the hardware mod is dangerous, because both mods often do not work:

Think you dont have to understand German to get the idea.

I´ve read the now. There has been a rumour around for three days or so that Ati would prevent newer revisions of the 9700 boards or chipset from being modded. But... why should they?

In fact, many modded 9500 boards seem to produce the check-pattern error because the disabled parts on these boards are faulty. If you turn these boards into 9700s, the faulty parts are activated and produce errors.

I think the problem with failed mods are the pcb layouts, cause the mod usually works on radeon 9700 type pcb layout. and if it is radeon 9500 pcb, so the mod should not work.
