60 Gig Harddisk and Windows XP.

Post by anbenham »

Hi,
i have a problem installoing XP after buying a new Seagate 60 gig Drive. I have read alot of forum messages but i couldn´t really find out the right solution. I hope one could give me a simple answer. So this is my problem:
I have removed my old 6 gig drive and replacecd it with the new one, on the standard controller.
I have inserted my XP CD Rom and started the setup. All has worked fine. After the setup, a reboot was needed. But after shutdown, the pc couldn´t boot from my drive.
So what should I do?
update my bios? which version? (I have 2* Cel 466)
use a shorter IDE-Cable  :?: :?: :?:
Thanx in advance[/b]

what do you mean standart controller? IDE-only one? then I would suggest reinstalling one more time.

NEVER use your HDD on HPT3666

use the BLACK IDE ports - the ones which go with the floppy port next to them.

DO NOT use WHITE IDE ports - this is HPT3666  controller and this one may screw your HDD, like it did to mine some time ago - I lost ONLY 50% of data on it.

I did not read cause I learned all of it from my experience when I did not have access to Internet

But the principles are the same.
