HPT366 question

Post by DoctorRad »

Hi folks, I'm a long term BP6 user, and I'm doing some hardware tweaks just now.

Is it generally possible to get the HPT366 controller working at bus speeds other than 75MHz? I'm using Win2k if that makes any difference.

Many thanks,

Dr. Matt...

I've had a 40GB Maxtor on it for about 2 years now, and it works fine at 92MHz bus with regular RU BIOS and 1.25 HPT drivers.

My CDROM just died though, so I'm going to yank it and move the Maxtor drive off the HPT to an IDE controller. This is just because I'm getting nervous with all the HPT data corruption that people have been having.

It's tempting, I know, to use the HPT3666. After all, it's right there waiting.

Thing is, I tested it and found it to be *slower* than the normal IDE interface.

As RRLedford is so fond of telling us (and IMO he's absolutely right) get a decent Promise PCI HDD controller card.

hahahah!!!!

I agree completely that it is HPT666 actually, cause it trashes your HDD time by time, makes it to have some bad sectors and you to worry about and loose tons of data from your hardrive.

I stopped using HPT the Devil controler just after the moment it trashed my HDD and I lost like 45-50% of info, cause it was not recoverable... :( I was just lucky it did not trash all of it! :)

Now I have RU BIOS without HPT and I am happy. By the way, when you have this bios, still you have to have the HPT666  drivers installed in Win XP Pro - otherwise it keeps bugging you averytime you bot about "found new hardware". so I installed the drivers and disabled the devices :) and NO BIOS!!!! :) 8)
