Did you overclock anything on your BP6?

Mine locks up once in a while when I push my two Celeron 366@550.

It doesn't crash, just freezes. I have an old Diamond Viper V550 in it, but it also locks up with a G400.

Did you try lowering the AGP-speed?

Did you try the AGP mod?

Post by loophole »

It could be that the video card isn't getting enough juice if it keeps on hanging, that's especially the case with the GeForce2 cards, and it's been said that the BP6 isn't so good at supplying enough voltage to the AGP slot.

Look at this page for more info:
http://www.open.org/~cowanm/bp6/agpmod.htm

Hope this helps.
Still kicking along with the Abit BP6 :-)

I'm running BP6 v.1.0 with A-Open Gforce2-MX200/64M just fine. Also have Promise ATA100 card, SB-Live 5.1, USB 2.0 card. My power supply is 350W & DUAL 366 @505 CPUs. Running Win-XP. AGP clock is set for 2/3.

Ditch the power supply, 300watts is a must. Ditch the Highpoint controler and fit a promise ATA card. Did the trick for me.

i thought i posted to this so sorry if this double posts.

this is an old problem w/ gf2 cards and the bp6. the easiest and least aggressive fix for some has been to set the agp to 1x in the bios (66mhz or 2/3 if your overclocked). i know that i was also able to fix it by reinstalling my NT4 from scratch. all work fine untill i installed the service pack. then games would lock the machine up in a few seconds. yet my tnt2 was fine.

Mogeley: I thought you had to set AGP 1x through software (Powerstrip or whatever) - it's not the same as the AGP divider in the BIOS.

Never had to do it myself though - my TNT2 card still does everything I want at 66MHz/2x AGP

you know, i had a misunderstanding of the divider in the bios you are right. my bad. although, setting that divider int he BIOS *is* what fixed my problem.

your tnt2 will work fine, so did mine. it's the gf2 cards that have this problem, or at least that when this problem came about. i'm not sure if the gf3 cards suffer as well.

do you really thing a video card thread is the right place for this post?

a 250wt power supply is fine, however it may not last as long as a 300 or 350wt ps as it must work harder. what you want more than anything is a repuatable and high quality ps.

If you go with the User Defined CPU speed settings, one of the options if for the AGP/CPU clock ratio & should be set to 2/3 so as not to exceed the video card's capability.
