Good idea. Have you modified your BP6? IE: The voltage stability modification?

This might indicate you had some conflict with allocation of H/W interrupts. By freeing up the IRQ12 of PS/2 mouse the system is obviously much happier. Make sure you disable the PS/2 mouse in the BIOS setup to get the most benefit.
