HPT366 Linux Drivers

Post by Chadzilla »

I have a problem with installing Linux...

First, I tried Mandrake 9.2 which did not detect the HPT366 at all, however, Mandrake 7.0 will see it, make a bootdisk for it, and go thru the entire install process.

But when it goes to boot for the first time, it says that it cannot find any mounted drives.

Help?

When the system boots up, you should see the HPT366 controller. The drive(s) associated with the controller will be assigned something like, hda, hdb, hdc, etc. In the fstab file, the mount commands should also show the correct drive assignment. If not, correct the fstab file to reflect the correct drive assignments. This has happened to me after I flashed to the newest BIOS. My drive assignments were hde in fstab. The new HPT366 BIOS changed the drive assignment to hda. After I modified fstab, everything mounted properly.

As a side, I have used MD Linux 8.x to 9.2 and have never had a problem with the HPT366 controller being found by the install. But my boot drive is SCSI, not HPT366.

First step: Do you have a Linux boot disk?
