Dumb question: Raid controller card and on-board IDE control

Post by jaybird »

This may seem like a dumb question but:

I am looking at a Tyan Tiger dual 370 board.

It only has 2 IDE connectors, one or both can be HPT66/100.

I have 6 IDE devices on my BP6 and of course 4 IDE connectors.

CD burner and DVD-RAM burner on IDE 1, CD-ROM and DVD player on IDE 2.

20 gig hdd on IDE 3, and 60 gig hdd on IDE 4. both on HPT370 controller

If I add a RAID PCI controller card to the Tyan will this free up
my 2nd IDE connector for 2 more devices?

Both hdd's on RAID card and 2 IDE devices each, on IDE 1 and IDE 2?

Regards,

When setting up a raid on the HPT370 you can't install other devices to the card except harddisks for 4disk raid0 or raid1. But you can still use the onboard ide controller.
