Adding hard disk to BP6 issue

Hi Shaun,

I am running win2000 on my bp6 and the drive im trying to add has come from another win98 machine. Ive connected them to separate ATA66 IDE channels and they are both set to be masters.

Not only is the new drive not showing up in Win2K but it has also wiped out my partitions on my original drive (c:, d: and e:). Could this be the problem? I was hoping it would update itself quite easily.. but noooooo!

it "wiped out" your partitions? What do you mean by that? The partitions are gone... or corrupted? Was the new drive empty and partitioned when you connected it?

Go to control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management. Check if your drives are present. You can also assign drive letters here to restore your configuration.

Use the HPT366 for Read-Only (xxROM) devices only.
Get a Promise ATA100 or ATA133 card for you hdisks.
Life's too short to be usint the HPT for any read-write type of drive.
