problem with dual monitors

Post by kuun »

i'e got a GF2 mx200 as my primary PCI display adapter

i've tried an AGP ati rage pro card and a PCI ati rage pro card

neither will allow me to run dual monitors on 2K

both cars install correctly, no problem in device manager

it's just they don't exist >:|

someone know what could be wrong?

Ah yes, this is a problem someone I know ran in to before. IIRC there is NO way to use the older ati cards in multimonitor on Windows 2000, and I don't remember as to if it works or not on XP. Sorry.

johnli's correct, some older cards just wont run in dual config. Check the spec for your cards on the manufacturer web site.

Yeah that might work. From what I recall, the ati issue is to do with ati and microsoft falling out, so they worked dual monitor under win9x but MS deliberately disabled it in NT5.x

from the ATI site:

"Products based on the MACH 32/64™, RAGE II™, or RAGE PRO™ do not support multi-adapter and will not function properly when used as the secondary adapter. They will function properly when used as the primary adapter. This is a design limitation with Windows® 2000 which cannot be rectified with a driver update."

I've got a Rage 3D charger, 8Mb SIS card and a early Matrox card. None of them run dual. :screwy:

That's just disgraceful. Gates and Ballmer can eat my boot-floppy.

Heh, I couldn't agree more. Linux's multi monitor support is getting there, Mandrake does it out the box and it's a simple tweak on redhat 9.0 if you know your way around X11's config files.

My TNT2Ultra has a driver for BeOS that allows the TV-out to serve as a 2nd monitor output for dual configuration.

Funky, the current crop of nVidia drivers for the GF2+ series cards let you use both at the same time as well, certainly for windows, not sure about anything else.

This is a long shot but try going into the BIOS, under Integrated Peripherals and switching from

Init Display First: AGP
to
Init Display First: PCI

That's all I can think of.

ooohhhh ive had this same problem!! I got real pissed off when XP wouldnt run my ATI rage pro and s3 together. so i just bought a radeon 7000 works decently however i dont recomend it. Nvidia does seem like the better choice for gamers.
