Could be a blessing in disguise. Sounds like your boards using the modified RU bios which excludes the HighPoint. The HighPoint is a dog at the best of times and has been known to destroy drives. Stick your IBM's on the IDE controller for the mean time and get hold of a Promise FastTrack controller card.
