Question about XP Media Center Edition 2005

Post by jaybird »

My boss just bought me a Gateway 2.8 Pentium "D" machine, 1 gig of RAM, dual layer burner, etc., etc. Nice box :D !

In Task Manager, shows "dual" (dual core) cpu's.

My question is this, can I "upgrade" my BP6 with this version of XP and will it "see" true dual cpu's?

Hi. I don't think WinXP Media Center will see "true" dual processor CPU's. Isn't WinXP Home Ed. capable of responding to dual core CPU's even though it does not support two separate chip CPU's? I think it is the same situation with WinXP Media Center Ed.

the Media Center shows my plain INtel 3.0ghz 478 pin as a dual system.
a bp6 is a true dual cpu, the Intel 3.0ghz is a "dual" cpu
bp6's 3 x dual @ 533
. . . . 1 x dual @ 466
. . . . 1 sngl @ 400
[( 2 x dual xeon 2.4ghz )]
[( 2 x dual xeon 2.66ghz )]
[( 1 x 2.4C ghz )]
[( 1 x 2.4B ghz )]
[( 1 x dual AMD 1800MP )]
[( 1 x P4 1600 )]
[( 1 x 500 ppga )]
3 x piii 866

open task manager!
View -> CPU History-> One graph per CPU

if you can do that, then your WinXP MCE can see that! also if the graph goes only to 60% on full load, you have to update BIOS!!

if you have activated the windows on the Dell, then you won't be able to do it again on the bp6.

if your Dell didn't need activation, you might be able to get away with it.
like with a notebook, comes pre-activated.

( psst, I was never here! )
