vpn from ipmasq'd windows machine

Hi all,

I have a Debian machine using ipmasq package as a router and firewall. I am using the standard 2.4.27 smp kernel image. I have not been able to VPN into my work since I switched to the standard kernel. I thought it was my firewall but even with it completely disabled I cannot connect. I figure the kernel needs to support IP tunnelling or something to allow my machines to connect.

Is there a package i can install that will magically give my windows machine behind the debian firewall access to VPN?

My network:
windows machines ---- debian machine ---- internet

From what I could find on google I need to load the ip_nat_pptp module but I wasn't able to find it in any debian packages.

I don't quite follow on how SSH can help me connect to VPN. Could you elaborate please?

I connect to my friends machines using Vnc
I do it direct as I have his firewall set to accept only my IP address.

you are supposed to be able to set up the Vnc connection using SSH.
so that the SSH encrypts everything in the connection.

the smoothwall forums would have more on the VPN side of things, though they'd also say to install some external package / update.
Smoothwall is built in with a VPN option, though I've never figured it out.
so I can't help get it to go.

an excellent source for checking out your masq setup . Shows 2.4 kernel options ...I'm running 2.6 kernel now and have no local reference data for you. Used to run same on 2.4 / RH7.3
