Stand BY problem???

hi dudes
i'm a new user of this motherboard
and I wanna ask a question
i've installed Windows 2003 Server
and i have a Problem : how to enable the stand by option???
and other thing
when i power off my PC the windows shuts down
and at the end it dysplays me a text "It's Now save to turn Off your computer"
how to fix those problems??????

My understanding is that you don't want to use any of the power management stuff with a BP6 because it's dual processor. If MS is reasonably intelligent, when the NT kernel detects that it is running on an SMP board, it shuts down all power management. I'm not a windows guy, but my Linux kernel will not let me compile power management drivers into an SMP kernel (and it [Linux kernel documentation] specifically says it is dangerous).

If there were an algorithm that could be used to ensure safe power management drivers, the Linux kernel would probably be using them by now.

To fix your problem with the "It's now safe to turn off your computer screen": if your computer is displaying that screen, and you want it to stop, just hit the power button.

No, seriously, power off on shutdown is a part of the power management functions, and while probably (I don't know for sure) safe to implement, it's bundled with the rest of the power management stuff, and because you can't use the rest of the power management business, you just won't be able to get at power off on shutdown. So, the solution to your problem is to just use the off switch.

before you install the OS, in bios under Power Management, you need to set the first item "ACPI Function" from the default "Disabled" to "Enabled"

the type of computer will be different.
instead of an MPS Multiprocesspr PC it will be an
ACPI Multiprocessor PC
it will then shut down properly all the way to power off.

if you go to the device manager and manually change the computer device type from MPS to ACPI, I think you will need to re-install over the top the OS to change a few things, as well. I know you need to do that for something, think it is this.

once you have it done, run up a iarsn taskmanager window and check what it is doing at idle.
mine was sitting at some rediculous amount of kernel time while doing nothing, so i set all mine back to MPS and don't bother turning them off, ever.

just turned on the ACPI fuvtion and reinstalled the windows
