Which Bios for a Ultra ATA 133

Post by Random »

I'm a novice that's almost got my puter how I want it. Most of it couldn't have been done without this site. Now all I have left is to add my 200gb hd for movie storage. I would rather recognize it whole, but if I have to chop it in half I guess I will. As it stands my 3rd and 4th ide slots aren't recognized. Don't know why or I would have gone that route instead of taking up a pci slot. I have a new Adaptec Ultra ATA/133 controller card and was trying to figure out how to integrate it into my system. Tried it last night and it just wouldn't show up. Right now I have 2 80gb hds, a cdrw and dvdrw in the 1st and 2nd ide slots. I can lose the cdrw and put the 200gb in it's place if it'll recognize it all, but don't want to sacrifice it just for a 137gb limited or partitioned 200gb hd. Any more knowledge out there?
I don't know what info is needed so here's a little:

Windows XP Pro ver. 5.1.2600
2 466mhz @ 525mhz
SMBIOS ver 2.2
Bios Ver/Date Award 4.51 PG, 12/16/2002
768 Mb Ram

Do you see the HPT366 in the device manager, at all?

I just rebooted and saw the blue hpt 366 ver. 1.28 screen. Of course ctrl-H does nothing and it isn't mentioned in the device manager, but I do get the nifty blue screen for a second while booting.

Hi Random! :)

I may be mistaken, but doesn't Partition Magic have an option to set more than one partition to be "seen" as one whole partition by Windows?

Maybe this would be preferable if you would rather not partition, but find you have to.

It's just a vague memory - I haven't had PM installed for quite some time. Anyone know?

The HPT should be under "SCSI & RAID Controllers" (twice, one for each IDE connector) in the Device Manager... It sounds like you might have to install the drivers for your HPT?

Random,
Is your HPT366 working now?
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining
