What is the fastest chip I can put I my BP6?

Batch codes, RAM specs, BIOS settings, etc..

The fastest availabble CPU clock speed (stamped on CPU) is 1100MHz (with 100MHZ FSB). This speed is either readiy available as a Celeron2-128K version, or not so readily available as a Pentium-III-256K cache. Either chip will require the NEO-370 socket adapter to allow the BP6 to accomodate the pinout/voltage differences from evolution of the Coppermine CPU series.
The SMP option dissapears if you choose a Cele2, and Dual P3 option requires some modding of the BP6 mainboard circuitry that feeds power to the CPUs to allow stable operation.
The 1100MHz CPUs should be capable of overclocking to at least 10% yielding 1.2+ GHz level performance. I am currently running a CELE2/NEO combination at 108MHz FSB and planning to up it to 110MHz tomorrow. I did have to retire the onboard HPT366 controller in favor of a Promise ATA100 card in order to reach stable operation with this CPU upgrade running Win XP Pro. The P3-1100MHz chips are only available used as far as I can tell. Intel seems to have ceased production. The P3-850MHz chips can still be found new - but, why bother.

I have a 1.1Ghz Celeron and was not very impressed with how well it overclocked. However my 566 celly overclocks very well.

Personaly I'd go for the Single PIII instead of the single celeron.

Tell me HAL6000, just where are you finding this hypothetical P3-1100MHz CPU? They are almost nonexistent & the last used one that went on E-Bay sold for $140+!! I'd love to find a $100 P3-1.1Ghz and know that my upgrade was only taking up one socket - so, I could always do the dual P3 modding down the road. But, there just aren't many chips available with this clock speed.

HAL6000:

Are you talking about 366 or 566?

I didn't say they were easy to find. The 133 bus ones are easier to get. Like $110 or so for them on pricewatch. THe 1ghz chips are way way way easier to find in both 100 and 133mhz bus version.

566 the FC-PGA version. It will do 850 at 1.4v instead of it's stock 1.5v :D

Sorry, no P-III/133 Tulatin series FC-PGA2 CPUs have been reported to work on the BP6. The new NEO-370/2 adapter is NOT COMPATIBLE with the BP6. If they did work, they would be FSB clocked at not much over 110MHz giving just over 900MHz (for an 1100MHz stamped chip). Might as well get a P-III 850/100FSB chip & just overclock it a little.
I've always wondered what would happen if you plug the NEO-370/2 adapter into a NEO-370 adapter already on the BP6. Would any BP6 BIOS with the P-III microcode mod allow the Tulatin chips to work?
The fastest FC-PGA chips are Celeron 1100/128/100 and P3 1100/256/100. You can forget about locating new P3-1100MHz chips though since Intel seems to have ceased production/delivery. Used ones show up rarely on EBAY for around $150! P3-1000MHz are easier to get.
The Cele 1100MHz chips are fairly cheap & easy to find. They will overclock to around 110+ Mhz FSB too. I'm running one now at 108MHz.
The notebook "Mobile" version of the P3-1100 seems to be more available - but, is it pin compatible with BP6/NEO-370? I don't know.

Notebook chips are of a diffrent pin configuration. They are micro-FCPGA, micro-FCBGA, micro-PGA2, BGA2, or MMC-2.
