Via C3

Post by Bluestreak »

Okey ladies and gents, here comes another of my somewhat silly questions:

Does the Via C3 processors work in the BP6?
Not talking about SMP here, just plain working...

With the increasing buzz about them here at home I've been
curious for some time. Would be nice to drop your heat in the
box from the near 45 degrees it's at today. Not to mention
powerconsumption...
Why work with Linux, when you can crash with Windows?

Don't recall anyone on the forum, stating they have one working on a BP6.

before I learned the difference between ppga and fc-pga i got one of those Via C3s. It worked in a ppga 370socket. Sort of. No onboard cache equals low heat/power but also means no preformance. the Via working at like 700mhz  was less productive then the Celery at 366mhz. :? I think thats when i discovered they don't have any L2 cache.

I took it back and got an intel fc-pga which i discovered wouldnt work on my ppga board.

guess im always 2 steps behind everyone else
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining

PC-Chips LMRT741
board with slot1 and 370socket but only one can be used at a time. I used the 370.

I have a C3 1.2 gig running right now. I'm not sure why I still have it running though!!! It really sucks ass! 24 - 30 hrs per WU. It came as an intergrated processor in the Syntax mother board. The sad part is my single 366 cellery OC'ed to 550 in an old Soyo baby AT mother board runs rings around this thing. It's doing 14- 20 hr WU's. I can't say I'd recommend this cpu to anyone doing SETI. Probably fine cpu for web browsing and such. Fortunately I don't have much money invested (assuming the $52.00 rebate ever comes!) so it's an ok board for the price.
