Okay, so it's not much, but I'm slowly working my way up. FYI it's 100% stable at this speed

Are you going to unlock the multiplier with the "join the dots" trick?

Yes you can. See http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20011112/

I'm afraid they are. It is impossible to unlock a P4.

I wonder if AMD "allow" it because they realise lots of people will burn out their OC'd CPUs and therefore more will be sold? :?

I didn’t unlock the multiplier when I first bought it because I had just finished destroying another CPU (by accident). I just wanted to enjoy a working computer for a little while :) I will unlock this one probably this weekend and get some real numbers out of this baby.

My next processor will probably be the 2700+ @ 333 and then I’ll probably jump back to Intel. :P

Do you have a preference with AMD vs Intel? I prefer to use Intel - I believe the packaging is better manufactured, and AMD chips often have problems with Windows audio stuff and BeOS. However, I've built quite a few high end AMD XP/MP workstations for arty types and have been very impressed. They are much more cost-effective.

No, I don't have a preference. At the time I bought the board AMD CPUs were significantly cheaper and gave me more bang for my buck. Now Intel is really hitting back hard and I can't wait to get my hands on the latest Hyperthreaded CPU.

Right now they have the 800MHz FSB (400x2) processors out, I’m sure we will soon see 1066MHz (533x2) FSB processors.

Me thinks that would be 200 Mhz x 4 ("QUAD" pumped) = 800 Mhz. And 266.5 Mhz x 4 = 1066 Mhz. :D Look at this. Pretty soon we'll have Ghz BUS speeds!

Nice overclock. I think I'm going to pick up a 2600+ (Barton) for christmas and then overclock that baby!

there are p4s that are unlocked, they are just very rare. i have some friends who work for intel and they have gotten engineering samples of some of the chips (the p4 2.6) and it had an unlocked multiplier as all the engineering samples are like this. of course to get them you must have a friend willing to dump it off to you as i have yet to see anything really pop up on ebay and really there is no other way to get them

and oc@voz that is a very very nice overclock there. would be interested to know some temps and benchmarks if you have the time to get around to it

What about some of the Dually AMD boards? Anyone running some Athlon-MPs on a decent dual motherboard? How well do the MP CPUs overclock?
I'm ready to start my next Dual-CPU system build & thinking that AMD has the most bang for the buck.

From what I've been reading, all that is required to enable the MP mode on any but the very newest athlons/durons is to connect one bridge on the processor packaging. I believe it is the L5 bridge. Then just make sure to get a dual mobo that supports some overclocking options, fsb, voltage, and multiplier if you have unlocked multiplier chips. The 1700+ JIUHB D*TC3 tbred chips can be found and easily run 2gig on default voltage. And they are also unlocked as far as multiplier goes, making things very interesting.

They would make one hell of a dual setup, if stable with the overclock. I don't see why not, the chips would be running at 1.5-1.55 volts, not too much too ask of the mobo.

RRLedford - Hi - you might like to check the forums at 2cpu.com: I've had dual Barton '2500's' at 15x 150 stable at 1.70vcore on an Iwill MPX2 [this is trivial & achieved by most everyone w/ that board CPU combo]: had them up to 13.5x 167 but this a bit much for all but a few PCI cards.

I found this article very interesting.

http://www.cpuheat.wz.cz/html/AXP_multi ... iplier.htm

Quote from FAQ:

# enable mutliplier on-the-fly adjustments from operating system (can be done under full load)
# fully stable operation, multiplier change designed by AMD
# be able to change multiplier in whole range of 3x - 24x without single wire
# works even on motherboards that do not support multiplier adjustments at all !
