alright here goes. I have three 486s one with a maxed out 96mp of ram and the others with 32. These have some isa network card. The one with 96mb of ram has a triden vl bus graphic card and i dont have a clue what the others have anymore. THe BP6 which is dual 366s@466 has the p3-500s linksys network card and an isa one that i will use if i ever find a driver for it. The p3-500 is sitting in little pieces right now which sucks as its my original beast computer with both an onboard intel i810 graphics and a geforce2 mx400 pci graphic card running two monitors (an lcd and a 17inch princeton). oh this p3-500 is also a compaq (pressario 3550 if anyone cares) and while it looks sweet its a piece of crap.
The BP6 is slowly becoming my main comp espcially now that i got a crappy old nec 21 inch monitor for it running of the borrowed tnt2 (i am thinking of getting a radeon 9000 pro or something else similar for under $100 but dont know how much it will be worth my while).
there are other computers lying around but they arent fully assembled or set up yet. altogether i have enough stuff tpo make around 7 or 8 computers (though i dont really think i will give anything just a 420mb hard drive as even the runnning 486s have 1.2 gb ones) so yeah i dont know how many more i will give.
On another note if anyone wants ram (as in SIMM ram) or other old parts i could see what i have and give it out (i have a few orchid isa sound cards lying around which still work and are probably the most useful old thing i have thats not in anything)

and oh, these 4 computers and 2 of my roomates computers are all conencted through a dlink router which lets us share our dsl connection.

hey hehehe

you sound like me.. a legacy hardware freak to the extreme!

i have 2 that are not plugged in or put back together yet..

i could probably get it working if i could find the serial i used for win98se initially

anyhow what kind of motherboards do you have laying around? im looking for one that can handle more than 266MHZ.. maybe a socket 7 that can go to 300MHZ.. also anything SCSI? i love scsi..

i also have a MB laying around that i will put back to use eventually.. it's a AMD 5x86 (the original K5!) 133MHZ socket 3! and it had something like 96MB ram (2x32mb and 2x16mb)

but legacy hardware is the way to go :)

i got the BP6 off ebay with 2 500MHZ CPU's and 384MB ram for like $132

i thought it was a good prive so i moved most of my stuff over to the new bp6 system

most of the actual useable motherboards i have laying around will be used as i always find some random use for them. The ones i know i wont use are the 386 ones (though i also have 386 to 486 daughtercard upgrades for them but still i dont use them). No socket 7s though, just lots and lots of socket 3s. no motherboard has anything special on it. i also hav e an amd 133mhz chip. i just have alot of sound cards and modems and other worthless things like that right now. anyways i have recently killed my hard drive (serves me right for hooking up a ibm deskstar 60gxp to the highpoint controller only to then overcloickl everythign to 75mhz and expect things to be happy) so yeah i am waiting on a new hard drive (got a nice quiet seagate one so i am hoping my comp doesnt sound like a plane taking off anymore). anyways time to go watch more football

Mine seems very dull by comparison..... I definitely need to get some of my old parts built into pcs....

BP6, VP6 and an Athlon, all hanging from a hub via linksys cheapo nics...
DSL router/dhcp server is a Dell Optiplex Pentium 233 with no keyboard, mouse or monitor driving an Alcatel USB DSL modem.... I have a purpose built dsl modem/router but this is more Geeky and it keeps logs...

Dell was running IPCOP but now running Smoothwall.... it has 64Mb ram and a 2Gb hard-drive, a wicked spec machine a few years ago but now relegated to sitting on the floor!

Lets see... right now there's a linksys cable modem hooked to a linksys router hooked to a linksys switch. From there I've got a linksys WAP connecting my ibook the the network. Next port over there's my old HPUX workstation that functions as my http/dns/remote smb/qmail/ssh/vpn server. Over from that is my fileserver, a celeron 1.1 @ 1.4 on an abit st6 with two RAID1 arrays for system and data running FreeBSD 4.7-stable with encrypted filesystems. The first workstation is my bp6 with two p3-850s with an 10krpm SCSI drive running freebsd 5.0-current (sometime solaris 8 ). Second workstation is the vp6 with two p3-700s @ 933 with a 15krpm SCSI drive (for oracle) running Win2k. Third box is a p4-2.26 @ 2.8 with another 15krpm SCSI unit and a 9700pro for gaming, this using win2k as well. That's it for my apartment. Up at my parents house 500 miles away I've got a celeron 466 and 486-100 acting as servers for them (and me, but they don't know about that part :P ). Soon I may add an RS6000, but we'll see.

Not with any consistency. Ran some freeBSD benches on the BP6, some Win32 stuff on the Win2k box. Perhaps I'll play with them some, even things out and run something prior to heading home this weekend.

[Update: 05.26.05]

[Green Net]

I have one BP6 running Win2KProSP4 that uses a 3Com 3C905C-TX Fast EtherNet NIC. My 11-year daughter's HP Vectra VE (350Mhz PII) running Win2KProSP4 uses a 3Com 3C905B-TX NIC. My Sparcstation 4 running Solaris 7 uses a standard Sun 10Mbit NIC. Our HP DeskJet 1120C is connected to a HP JetDirect 300X via a parallel cable. Another BP6 running XPSP2 uses a 3Com 3C905C-TXM NIC.

All NICs and JetDirect are connected to a NetGear FS108 Fast EtherNet Switch.

The switch is connected to my IPCop 1.4.5 Firewall. The firewall is another HP Vectra VE (350 Mhz PII) that has three NICs in it. A 3Com 3C905B-TX NIC is used for the GREEN Internal interface.

[Orange Net]

A 3Com 3C905-TX-W is used for the ORANGE DMZ interface "Crossed-Overed" to a Dual PentiumPro running Fedora Core 2 and Apache Server 2.

[Red Net]

The firewall's RED External interface is going out through another 3Com 3C905-TX-W NIC that is "Crossed-Overed" to a Cisco 678 ADSL Router provisioned by Alltel for 1536/768 down and up.

[Blue Net]

The BP6 running XPSP2 that has the ethernet connexion, also has a wireless LinkSys WPM11 802.11b PCI NIC used for the BLUE Wireless interface. I use ICS to the share the Internet to the [Blue Net]. And finally a Dell 3800 Inspiron laptop (running XPSP2) uses a wireless LinkSys WPC11 802.11b (v.4) PCMCIA buscard to connect to the [Blue Net]. WEP and SSID are used for wireless network.

I have a BP6 with a Netgear FA310, and a P90 with some kingston technology card. In addition I have an AMD 2200+ system (my brother's) and a Duron 800 (my dads). As a media server for videos and the like we have a second Duron 800. Both the duron systems I built and are Abit KT7 Motherboards, the mediabox with a silent cooler and 80GB Silent maxtor drive. I'm about to buy myself an Athlon 2200+ system with all the bells and whistles, so that'll be on there too. Additionally I have a K6-350 system acting as a router running IPCop (http://www.ipcop.org) for my ADSL. These are connected via home made cables, largely with wall sockets installed by myself and a friend, through a Netgear FS108 100mbit switch. I have a P100 sitting here which when I get time I'm going to try and get working with linux, but I had little luck last time (I think the hard disk is dodgy).

John

This could ge kind of involved.
1 First I have business class cable with 3meg down and 768 up
2 Then into my Astaro firewall that runs on a 200Mhz 9Gig 128MB Scsi box
3 Off that is my Cisco 2950 24 port switch thats vlaned for my lan and a DMZ
4 In the DMZ is a BP6 w366@500 3-9G Barracudas in raid 5 hung off a
Compaq Smart-2DH. Then there is a 200Mhz 256MB 2-9G barracuda Postfix
server in Raid 1
5 In the Lan there is my Wife's rig - A BH-6 W2K 1 gig P3 and 512 Mb
20G Maxtor. My daughter has a ZM-6 1gig Celeron and 512M and a 20 G
Maxtor running Mandrake 9.1. My son has an ECS-DAA6 w 1 Gig p3 a
20G Maxtor w 392MB W2K.
6 Then in the up stairs where I am there is my Tyan 230T with 2-18G
Chetah's running MDK9.2
dual 1G p3's and 1.5 G ram. A file/movie server with BH-6 768Mb and 3
IBM 36Gig drives off a Compaq 3200 in Raid 5 running W2k adv server.
an Old old old Compaq 1500 runing dual 166Mhz 192 MB and 5-9 Gig
Barracudas for file storage. It runs NT4. Then I have the big daddy. A Dell
6100 with dual 200P Pros and 512MB ram with 6- 18 Gig Chetah's off a
Perc 2 controler running Slackware9.1. I have another BP6 I am getting
ready to mod for P3's running Mandrake 9.2.
Thats about it i Guess. I have some others but they are just used for lab work and learning.

Thats 11 running and about 3-4 more for lab work. I need to have a garage sale.
