You can power the fan straight from the PSU using a 3-pin fan to 4-pin Molex adaptor. These can be found at most PC hardware shops and online stores.

The downside is that you won't have fan RPM measurement any more.

BTW, I power all my fans straight from the PSU rather than through the motherboard header. Some large fans draw too much current for the on-board connector to supply.

It’s not unusual to burn a fan header.

Fan headers die. Most I've seen go after about 4 years.
