16 bit ISA under win2k?

Post by jaybird »

I have a BP6 network conflict. All PCI slots except 5 are full. When I try to install any 10/100 NIC in PCI 5 I have a conflict with any PCI card in PCI 4 (PCI 4, 5 and ISA 1 share IRQ's).

I can install a 16 bit card in ISA 2 and under win98se I have no problems.

However, I run dual-boot, 98SE/WIN2K and 2000 "sees" the card but there seems to be no driver available.

I am told problem is only 16 bit ISA NIC's available and WIN2K is 32 bit so nothing will work.

Ideas and/or thoughts?

Regards,

I'm just guessing here, but I think it has more to do with how the two OS's handle IRQ's. I'd try just moving what cards you can to different slots. May very well solve your problem. Generally 16 bit hardware doesn't mean it's incompatible with 32 bit OS's.

there's a limitation on what they supported in the new style OS.
if they supported everything ISA, the .inf files would be huge.
bp6's 3 x dual @ 533
. . . . 1 x dual @ 466
. . . . 1 sngl @ 400
[( 2 x dual xeon 2.4ghz )]
[( 2 x dual xeon 2.66ghz )]
[( 1 x 2.4C ghz )]
[( 1 x 2.4B ghz )]
[( 1 x dual AMD 1800MP )]
[( 1 x P4 1600 )]
[( 1 x 500 ppga )]
3 x piii 866
