More bad caps

Post by purrkur »

I had my friends server over at my house for a health check. He told me that his machine was highly unstable and would either lock up or not boot correctly anymore. I have checked out the machine. He is running a Soltek SL-75KAV motherboard and an XP1700+ cpu. The chipset (VIA KT133A IIRC) is absolute crap but the machine was working well and gave him no problems before.

I opened the system up and found that all caps for CPU voltage regulation were bulging and one was leaking (a total of 9 caps). I also found 8 other bulging caps of which 3 were leaking.

This board isn't even worth recapping. It goes right into the dumpster.
