capacitor problems - again, or still, but ....

Post by Dave Rave »

the other board i had, that was capped, and re-parked for a while....
ho-hum. i try it, it sort of starts, slightly.
fans spin up, but no vga love.
then vga screen, memory test, but reboot.
over and over and over....

so i'm trying this and slowly (I'm getting old) realise that it will boot, sometimes, but not with the hdd plugged in to.
hmmm, dodgy hdd ?

get it to be able to post, plug in hdd, nothing. hmmmm....

oops, lightbulb, maybe it's the psu. (slaps head)
change psu, everything fine.
oh well.
3 win2k rebuilds, a board cap ($60), a cpl more win2k installs, much hair pulling.......

perhaps someone might suggest, a few weeks ago, that maybe the psu might be the prob ?

I think capacitor and PSU problems go hand-in-hand. Bad capacitors cause PSU's to go bad.
