BP6: S3 standby (STR)-PSU won't off

Post by jigc »

hi,

i just replaced bad caps of my bp6.
the board is working again :D

i installed XP pro, and wish to make S3 standby (suspend to ram) works for this mobo.
i just like the "one touch switch on" feature :P.

i set ACPI to "on" and cpu fan to "suspend-->OFF" in bios before xp installation.
and the computer under device manager is "ACPI multiprocessor pc" .
actually i manually select this setting by pressing F5 during XP installation.

when i put the pc to standby mode, cpu fans are off, but the PSU fans is still ON.

for my asus p4p800 (P4 system), when i put to s3 standby, all the fans are off. (but this mobo is using different PSU)

my questions:
1. is this S1 suspend mode or S3 suspend mode??
2. if this is S3 mode, the PSU fan should off. is this related to PSU??
3. how is the condition of your standby mode of your BP6 under XP??

fyi, hibernation works.

others info:
-bios version: RU
-cpu: dual celeron 400
-OS: XP sp1

pls comment on this.

TIA

Welcome to BP6.Com, jigc !

s1: "Power On Suspend/Stopgrant" MS: Standby

s3: "Suspend to RAM" MS: Standby (if notified by BIOS)

Here's a good link for more information:

This may be related to the PSU.

I'll try XP on mine when I get home.

hi, hyperspace,

TQ for the reply.

i've tried one of the trick as link above:
set Power Profile to "Minimal Power Savings".
but the psu fan is still ON.

i downloaded "Sleeper", and tested the "S3" standby, but the psu fan is still ON.

my understanding of S3 standby should be: all fans OFF.

Welcome abord jigc.

Looks like you are already getting the answers on the S1 S3 stuff so I won't add confusion. I was wondering what caps(brand and rating) you used to recap the board? Did you do it your self or have someone do ot for you?
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining
