Task Manager & MBM 5.3.7 not showing 2 CPU graphs.

Post by Tim_K »

I just got my BP6 back from an Abit RMA, and I have 2 533 Celerons in it. I started up the computer with each processor in each socket individually, so I know they both work.

But in task manager, it shows only 1 CPU graph, even though I have the option checked to show one graph per CPU.

And in Motherboard Monitor 5.3.7 it only shows one CPU speed gauge also, but it shows the voltages for both.

Is it normal for Core 0 voltage to be right about 2.00 and Core 1 voltage to be right around 1.50 ?

I may try running the config wizard in MBM again.

Okay, it's definitely not using both processors. I downloaded folding@home from Stanford, and watched the results. CPU 0 temp rose by 4 degrees once it had a steady 100% load on it, and CPU 1 never moved.

They were staying at 28-29 C with no load, and CPU 0 rose to 33 with a steady 100% load.

Is there a jumper on the MB I have to move to enable dual CPU usage? Or something in the BIOS?

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro, so it supports dual CPUs.

This has been observed with MBM. Your Core 1 voltage is in fact showing the VTT.

Yes, in the startup screen it shows 2 processors. And I'm using 2000 Pro, so it can use them both. But it isn't right now.

did you initially install the OS with one cpou and install the other one later ?

in Device Manager, is your Computer a Uniprocessor, or a Multiprocessor ?

Click on the Start, then Run, type-in "msinfo32" and click OK.

Do you see two processors listed under System Summary?

I don't see anything about dual CPUs in it.

When I installed Windows 2000, I was running one 466 Celeron. Will I have to reinstall 2000 now?

In Device Manager under BP6 << Computer it says "MPS Uniprocesor PC.

I don't mind reinstalling 2000 Pro if that's what it takes to fix it. I may do that today. But is it REQUIRED?

The HAL is a single processor kernel. Go back into Device Manager and select "MPS Multiprocessor PC". You should see two processor after reboot.

That worked. Once in Device Manager I had to update the driver. It has drivers for single and multi processor boards. So I just changed it and it works fine in SMP now.

Now I need a copy of MBM 4.18. The links provided don't get me a good copy. When I go to install it, it asks what program I want to use to install, and none seem to actually do it.

MBM 4.18 / 5.3.7 / CPU-Z installation problems.

Post by Tim_K »

Now that I have SMP working on my BP6, MBM 5.3.7 won't install. It keeps saying there's an error in some file, an IO error or something. It installed fine when I was running in single processor mode.

The links I saw for MBM 4.18 don't work. I can download the file, but it won't install. It keeps asking me which program to use to open it. I tried a variety of programs but none work.

And the same thing happens with CPU-Z, which gives way more information about a system.

What to do for each of these?

I got 5.3.7 installed, but now it won't show anything for CPU temps or fan rpms.

Should I put the computer back to single processor, install 5.3.7, and then re-enable SMP?

I sent you MBM 4.18 as an attachment in a PM. Don't go back to single processor mode.

I got it, but it won't install. It comes as a .zip file, but I don't know what program to use to install it. I think something is missing from it that allows it to install normally.

For future reference, MBM 4.18 is available for download in the Files section: http://www.bp6.com/board/dload.php?acti ... file_id=43

Edit: Sorry, didn't see your other post.

Uhh..... I think I did. Right click on it and hit Open, right? Then what? Or something else?

It asks for a program to use to open it and then I can't get anywhere with opening it.

And why does MBM 5.3.7 not show temperatures and fan speeds now? I got it to show 1 temp and 1 fan speed, but that's all.

It looks like everyone is wrong who said that MBM 4.18 would show the correct voltage for CPU1. It still shows right around 1.50 volts, while CPU0 is at 2 volts.

But at least MBM 4.18 gave me back my temperature readings and fan rpms.

Yes, I figured out how to install it. I downloaded the free version of WinZip and used that to open MBM 4.18. It worked.

a, newbies.....
open a zip file,.....
anyhoo

I run 5.3.6 on my bp6's
you need to set the system to bp6 mode in the voltages, though it doesn't matter.
better, to leave it as it is, with the 1.50 showing.
in this mode, it shows the cpu voltage and the VTT voltage which should be 1.50

after a general vanilla install, you will have to set up what you want showing.
look at the various temp / voltages / fans and click each one, with the visaul tab, and set up what should be in systray / dashboard / etc

When you set "BP6" mode in 4.18, the correct CPU core voltages are displayed.

yes, and you have no monitor for your important VTT line.
which is why i don't bother, the cpus are the same anyway, and it's so much nicer to see how much you need an EC10 replacement than to know that your second cpu is running the same voltage (surprise) as your first one

I got it working when I selected the BP6 option.

Only one more question - how do I get the CPU Speed to show up on the left hand side? I looked all over the various buttons and didn't see it anywhere. Maybe I was looking for the wrong thing.
