Linksys Hacking

Post by InactiveX »

Linksys are releasing their firmware and driver source code under the GPL.

This has caused a community of Linksys hackers to spring up, and they're doing some really good work extending the functionality of Linksys products.

There is an article/review of the site from The Inquirer here.

The Inquirer article mentions this a bit but Linksys are actually not giving anything away. They were using Linux and Linux related software in their products which were under the GPL lincense which means that there is a certain legal aspect that they have to follow. So the way I see it, Linksys is only going the legal way and doing the right thing.

So here, ladies and gentlemen, is GPL at work, making a good product better, giving you control over how you use the hardware you buy! Isn't it great? This is the antithesis of Microsoft who want to control what you are allowed to do with the hardware you buy with your hard earned cash.
