dammit, they've been so good, so far!

one of my bp6s is playing up.

some memory, win2k, 2 hdds, both NTFS
computer starts ok, then at some stage spontaneously stops, screen blacks, no action form front power button.
hard power off (on PSU) will turn fans off. but then power back on does nothing, for quite a while. (indicating psu prob?)

I ran docmem memory tester for 4 days, no probs, ran fine, no errors.
rebooted to OS, stopped after 5 minutes. power off, gone. power on, no joy from the power switch, strange.

I had run spinrite over the drive with no probs.

also, re-installed win2k into the same drive. it stopeed soon after getting into OS properly.

I'm looking for ideas on what to diagnose, seeing as once the prob shows, it won't boot for awhile.
does it sound like some motherboard error that won't allow the power on button to work, or a PSU prob or just a bad caps prob that doesn't show up until some part of the OS asks the cpus to do something particular ?

running BOINC on all my comps now.

what CPUs, FSBspeed, what hdds and controler, video/network/sound cards?
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining
