ARGH!! BP6 dead...

Post by PekkerCadette »

I have a bp6 working as a filesesrver, then out of the blue it just died on me the other day. I'm aware of the bad cap problem these boards have so I checked all the caps and they looked fine. Me scratches head. I figured I'd remove everything from the board and reseat it. When I removed the heatsinks I noticed that the plastic covering the caps, those just 'north' of the processors, had been slightly shaved, exposing the bare metal underneath. Ok, I thought, soldering time! Resoldered the 6 caps plus the black one in between the sockets, as I've read somewhere it often causes problems, in total seven caps resoldered.
Well, let's hook it up to power and see what happens. Wtf?!? No beep, no nothing only silence. Well sort of silence, as all the fans and such spin up as they should, but the board seems dead. Tried reseting the CMOS, reboot and... nothing!

Any suggestions? I so want my fileserver back online :(

Ehmm, well, yes and no. I had a 300W before (last year), now I have a 350W PSU. The PSU is a ATX 2.03 model,so it should do fine. I've tried it in another rig and it works just fine.
Been reading up a bit here, and it seams the dust-buildup can be a problem, but my board is not dusty at all so I don't think it's that.

I think he meant that your PSU died...not the mobo.
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining

Well, the PSU works just fine, so that's not the problem.

Any other suggestions?
