Q9 chip on BP6 is damaged how do i remove it

Post by commops106 »

chip or possibly a big resistor its labeled L3103S LR 929E 1935
The chip was physically damaged it looks like it is soldered on however i use my iron and the thin layer of solder doesn't melt, could it be high temp solder anyone know how to get this chip off the board and how i can get another one? Enclosing photo of board and damaged area. this q9 area on bp6 is under the first cpu socket next to ec18 and ec 19 caps.

Pix are kind of dark. Sometimes trying to unsolder components from a mainboard, requires more heat. There are at least 4 layers of different circuit board "planes" that will conduct heat away from the point of contact.

When I replaces capacitors on my BP6 a 15watt was near useless. 30watt did most of it but the traces that ended up on a large trace(ground) took a 40watt to melt the solder.
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining
