unwanted automatic startup

I have a BP6 with two 366 mHz Celeron's and 256 MB memory. RU bios,
XP installed and using both 366 channels.
Everything works fine, even overclocked up to 550 Mhz.
There is one nasty thing, after shutting down the computer in the proper way, it starts up again at a random interval.
This can take a few minutes or even an hour but it will start up.
I tried varous bios settings on power management, and settings in XP, no matter what I do shutting down the computer (te get at least a few hours of sleep without being disturbed by noisy fans) won't work.

Anyone any suggestions??

it's possessed! call in an exersist!!

have you tried changing the power switch that connects to the mobo? your switch might be worn and causing random short circuits

check the settings that are designed to bring the board up for stuff like getting a fax when its powered off.
"wake on lan" "wake on modem" etc.

Maybe some part of the hardware is touching the case and shorting out.

does the bp6 even have Wake on Lan features?
Cause with my dlink cards in it, when i shut the system down, the network card stays awake/on.. it just pisses me off.

as far as i've seen in the bios settings, no wake on lan selection.

Most of these points have already been covered... but I'll post them again

If you have recently changed any hardware try changing it back and see if it still has the problem.

Check you power switch.

Check the bios settings for the wake on LAN etc. Also check your setting for what the computer does when power fails. Maybe its confused and thinks the power has gone off and come back on, causing it to switch its self on.

Also check that something hasn’t come loose in the case and is shorting the board in any way.

There are Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring headers on the board. Also, in the Power Management section of the BIOS, there are:

Power Putton Override
Resume by LAN
Power on by Ring
Power on by Alarm

The RU BIOS also has alternative ways to turn on the computer:
Mouse click, a Ctrl-Fn button sequence (maybe another... Been a long time since I've been in the BIOS). Check to see if any of those settings in Power Management are active.

I wonder if maybe a sticky power button could cause this? (As, I think, 24seven mentioned) I had one that did that, though the symptoms were that my board would reboot after 6 seconds 'til I found the problem, hehe.

Check for fraying or a short in the wires, pins or traces at either the power connector on the board or the headers to the power/reset buttons. Try a different PSU AND a different outlet.

Hmm, the only other thing I can think of is to check to see if your house was built over a graveyard
