kvm switch turns off machine

Post by arthur dent »

i recently retired my bp6 server running an sql platform and wanted to use it in my home as a file server along with my home pc. i configured the two pc's with a kvm switch, however, when use the mouse or make a few keyboard strokes the bp6 box shuts right off.

any suggestions or comments regarding this dilemma would be most appreciated.

one of our customers brought back a keyboard.
cpl of months old, type in password, machine shuts down.

something faulty in the board cpu, sending the wrong codes up the wire, so your computer is getting the 'power' key for some silly reason.

new / different KB to what you were using before ?

the keyboards & mice have all been ps2. i have swapped out a couple of different keyborads and even tried a usb mouse with a ps2 adapter on the kvm with the same result. unless i connect the keyboard & mouse directly, the computer will shut right down.

Me suspects KVM. Have you tried different ports on the KVM?

There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining

Keyboard Video Mouse switch
KVM

allows you to use one keyboard, and mouse to control and see stuff coming from 2+ computers, it's like a big switch
