new bp6 setup, any tips?

Post by Popa Tim »

Hi everyone,
I'm breaking my original bp6 v1 bd out of mothballs to build my stepson a dp xp-pro box. He's relatively poor and I didn't want to spend much.... anyways I got the old bp6 out, bought a pair of 433 celeron's off ebay for $1.75 ($5 to ship) and I'm sure i've got some pc66 sticks of memory floating around and a viper770 video card.

I see that I'll need to check and maybe replace a few caps, but this was a nice solid board once I did the ec10 (?) mod years ago. I also see there are a few bioses on this site. Should I use one of these instead of abits ru?

There are no plans to OC or mod. The hpt366 sucked and I don't think I'll be using it (again) unless one of the drivers/firmware here works for it or it works better under xp than it did win95.

Any and all advice welcome. Its been in mothballs since before y2k

the RU bios is fine.
just post it into bios, load defaults, and go.
if it won't post, carefully brush it with a soft paint brush (vacuum nearby to assist), check connections....
get the speaker on it's posts to hear beeps, uhm....
you might need a Hard Drive too ;-)
