Alrighty BP6 peeps! I finally got around to trying the eRMA on the website like the rep suggested when I called. I just got this in my mailbox:

Code: Select all

Dear customer,
Based on the information you submitted:

SN:BP6-XXXXXXXX (In Wnty:N Missing SN:N)

Original Invoice Avaiable & within Wnty:N

No Physical Damage:Y

The requested item has long been phased out. We are sorry that no further support on this item will be available.

Hmmm, maybe I'll get the second "good news" email? The rep said that they would cover it as "extended warranty service" as I mentioned in the preceeding posts. I'll keep everyone informed.

If this proves fruitful, I have another bp6 that has a blown trace near one of the mounting holes in the top left hand corner of the board. It still works fine though! It would be nice to have it fixed/replaced however.

My other bp6 has a lasagna cooler on the northbridge, so I guess I can't send it back for the "hangs every other restart" problem it has. At least once that one is up and running it is more stable than the other two ever were.

Hope to have three bp6s running soon! None right now, I disassembled the only good one (lasagna cooler, my original bp6) to test/build the vp6 I just bought.

Ok, been waiting patiently, and this popped up in the inbox today:

Code: Select all

Dear customer,

Your RMA request has been validated and assigned with a RMA number as
indicated. Please use the assigned RMA number (Not request number) &
attached RMA form and follow the guideline to start your RMA process.

Please also note that:
1). ABIT would do 100% double checking during receiving stage to
reconfirm all contents received are complying with what you submitted in your
request. ABIT reserves the right to revoke your RMA case should there
is any major deviation found and identified, especially for the
availability of copy of original invoice and its issuing date.
2). Normally, just copy of original invoice even without serial number
is good enough. However, if your serial number is verified as more than
two years for motherboard, or 15 months for VGA card, from original
manufacturing date, and you want to prove your purchase is well within one
year to be qualified for free labor service, then your copy of original
invoice MUST be with the same serial number as on your defective
return(s).
3). Please log in our eRMA Online to check on 'MAKE PAYMENT' section
after end of the working day (PST) that you receive this confirmation to
check account balance on your RMA number. At this point, you can also
have the options to pay to upgrade shipping or request for special
cross-ship. It is much preferred for you to make payment, if so required,
via our online payment through PayPal. If you don't feel comfortable to
use PayPal or you don't have valid credit card to do so, you can still
follow the attached guideline to complete your payment. However, we only
accept payment for labor service charge in any other means than PayPal.
For all other inquires, especially cross-ship, must be paid via PayPal.
NO RMA WILL BE PROCESSED IF IT STILL REQUIRES ANY PENDING PAYMENT.

Ok, this goes along with what I was expecting before, and the RMA guy I talked to at Abit said to ignore the payment requirement. I am going to go for it.

Well, I got a really nice, (almost) new, shiny BP6 in the mail from Abit today. Wow. I haven't tested it yet, I can't wait. They still don't use any thermal interface material (grease or tape) under the greenie!

Now I have four BP6s sitting idle for need of cases and PSUs, and maybe a few HDs.

I know Abit covers the boards for blown/vented caps, I wonder if they will cover them for a blown trace? Hmmm...
