Athlon on BP6???

Post by fazer »

Call me stupid, or interested.

Is there a Socket 370 to Slot 1 adapter?? I think there is, can someone say or not?

and if so...

Can we get Athlon on the bp6 then?

AND if so can the Athlons be run in SMP?

im not talking about the athlonXP, the athlon was AMD's first chip after the k6-2/3, it is also called the K-7. AMD first released the prossesor for Slot one systems. There is a 733mhz version, im not aware of any other speeds

Nice idea, but it would never work I'm afraid.

yeah.. it wouldn't work

AMD and INTEL designed their own sockets/slots

after socket 7 they haven't shared the same socket since

AHA!!! it could be possible!!!

AMD's Athlon uses a Slot A architecture that is physically compatible with Intel's Slot 1, but electrically compatible with the DEC's EV-6 Alpha bus, instead of Intel's closed P6 bus architecture. The EV-6 bus has the potential to run at up to 400MHz, starting at 200MHz initially (100MHz * 2).

got it from here check it out

http://www.geek.com/procspec/amd/k7.htm

now i know it uses a 200mhz bus however cant we just underclock it to 133???
also IS there a Socket 370 to Slot one adapter?

And why wouldnt it work??? check it out anyhow, check it out. If im right it could mean a whole new thing for Bp6'ers!!!!

Its like trying to fit a V12 into the back of a beetle, it just ant gunna happen, unless you heavily modify it. i.e. build your own space frame with a different gearbox. In computer terms that would be design a new motherboard and chipset, in which case you might as well use one designed for that chip.

Even if it *could* work, why hamstring the Athlon with an outdated chipset?

Keep dreaming! :)

Did you just call the bp6 outdated!?!? :x  . This baby is one of the most versitle thin... wait never mind thats another topic.

The athlon would be sooo cool running on a bp6, i would certanly do it, also for the shock value when you tell them that the intel board theyre looking at is actually housing a cuple of Athlons!!! I think we should take even the remote possibility of the athlon running on the bp6 seriously. We only have Celerons, P3 (mod), celeron tualitin (extreme mod), cia (non smp), wouldnt you like to see athlon on that list?? Also i believe the athlon wipes the floor with a p3!!

It's not possible, the chipsets are completely different.

LOL!

(InactiveX gives his BP6 a contrite word or two, and promises not to insult his favourite motherboard again.)
