I think there's a feature in Windows to scan and (try to) repair the registry, but I'm not sure where it is. I'll take a look for it.

scanreg is for 98 and ME , xp automatically fixes the registry , but if it's a big error it will just fall over

First, I'd try System Restore.

When my XP registry ate it, I booted into Windows98 (dual boot) and copied all the files from x:\windows\repair into x:\windows\system32. It let me boot and run XP, though I had to reinstall most of my software, again. (the registry files in the repair folder are created when you first install XP).

eek! The first thing I do in XP is turn off System Restore :P

I maye a restore point straight after installing the drivers then I turn it off for good ;)
